New York Exists in DCU

Apparently, New York City exists in the DC Universe.  For some reason, I was always under the impression that Gotham was NYC, Metropolis was Chicago, etc.

After the premiere of the Wonder Woman animated movie, they held a panel.  Someone asked about how Steve Trevor brought Wonder Woman to NYC upon leaving fantasy island.

The panel responded that indeed NYC exists in the DCU and that where better to take Diana than New York?
