Penny Arcade @ NYCC 09
The duo behind Penny Arcade(Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, better known as Gabe and Tycho) blessed the east coast with their presense. They had a large booth which also featured Scott Kurtz. Together they sold merch and signed autographs along with the rest of their crew which included family and Khoo.
I was able to attend the panel that Khoo and Kurtz held about the web comics business. They had a lot of great information about the dos and don'ts. Kurtz is just as funny in person on a panel as he is in the Dungeons and Dragons podcasts that I've listened to. In that panel, Khoo mentioned a possible product that they hadn't developed: The "Oh Noes" line of self help books. In these books, Tycho and Gabe would deliver help in comic form about problems like "Oh Noes: My Girlfriend is Pregnant" and "Oh Noes: I Sold My Business". Then Khoo would go in with red ink and correct all their advice. In response to my yelled out "I'd buy it!" he polled the audience. Apparently everyone in attendence was with me on it.
The next day at the Gabe and Tycho Q&A Panel, I asked them about the books. Instead of saying if there was any chance of them revisiting the idea, they just described the books again. I guess it's good that the rest of the Penny Arcade fans were able to hear about their awesome idea. They also added more evidence of my awesomeness. As they pointed out people to ask questions, they addressed people as "You", "Hat guy", "orange shirt", etc. When it came time to select me however, it was "You look cool. What's your question?"
I rest my case.
