A Short Walk: I Choose You!
So Nintendo revised Pokémon Gold/Silver with HeartGold/SoulSilver for the DS. And in what I can only imagine is an attempt to thwart software piracy, released a pack-in hardware accessory with the version of the game: the Pokéwalker. What is this ingenious device? It's a pedometer that you beam your Pokémon to to level up by walking.
Genius.
Gaming Updates
So Civilization Revolution DS and Jagged Alliance DS are now gone from my collection. CivRev was just too boring. I tried their Map of the Week feature, and without any sort of feedback, it just looks like a random map that the game downloaded settings for over wifi.
Jagged Alliance DS is just too old and busted. A lot has changed in the language of gaming since Jagged Alliance came out and the developers didn't take advantage of any of it. It plays out like a direct port of Jagged Alliance to the DS. I can't even remember now what they used the top screen for. Probably stats and stuff, maybe a map. Controlling your units is clunky. Meh. I wish I could be more specific but the game just doens't do it for me. I played the original on the computer a good amount along with X-COM and then Jagged Alliance 2. Oh well.
Infinite Wait :(
Please, please bring us Infinite Space
soon. I want it now, but gamefaqs says Q4 2009 and Amazon says March 2010!

Infinite Space Japanese Box
This looks like a fantastic space rpg with characters being crew members on different spaceships that you can purchase.
Here's the description from gamefaqs.com:
Infinite Space, a role playing game exclusively for the Nintendo DS™ portable handheld system, takes place in outer space and gives players the ability to control, build, outfit and customize more than 150 spaceships. Infinite Space stretches the DS hardware to the limit, offering over 200 characters and the ability to control multiple spaceships at any one time. Releasing in 2009 and currently being produced by Atsushi Inaba and directed by Hifumi Kouno (from developer Nude Maker), Infinite Space is one of the most complex RPG titles developed for the DS to date, and shows PlatinumGames commitment to teaming up with the most creative minds in gaming.
150 space ships. 200 characters. Control multiple ships. *cry*
CivRev DS
What a nice balance! For some reason, I found the XBOX 360 version intolerable. The dumbing down of certain elements in the handhold though make a fun game to hold in your hand.
At least on Chieftan through King difficulty levels there are no drawbacks to creating buildings. No upkeep to pay for. There's also no money generated by the population. You need to build gold generating buildings. So the only uses for money are rushing production, diplomacy, and economic victory.
So far I've generally been teching up and turtling then winning a cultural victory.
